Beresheim Family Tree

Beresheim Family Tree

I am researching the families of several Beresheims who emigrated to the United States in the 19th century. I have written a short outline of each, hoping that someone can tell me of the family in Germany.

Jacob Beresheim
About 1822: Born in Bavaria.
1847: Immigrated and settled in College Point, Queens County, New York, which later became a part of New York City.
About 1856: Married Catherine Sohl, born December 1826 in Bavaria. Her death certificate lists her parents as Jacob Sohl and Barbara.
About 1879: Died.

Jacob Beresheim
Parents: Johann Beresheim and Katharina Bruch
November 1854: Born in Blieskastel, Bavaria.
1873: Immigrated and settled in New York City.
7 Feb 1875: Married Katherine Wagner. She was from Thalheim, Wurttemburg. Daughter of Michael Wagner and Valentina Weimar. They had at least 7 children.  The family moved to New Jersey.
28 July 1892: Remarried to Freida or Fredericka Pittman, born July 1866 in Germany. They lived in New York City. Three children from this marriage. She later married a man with the last name of Schulte.
17 March 1901: Died in New York City.

Johann Beresheim. Called John Peter Beresheim
Parents: Johann Beresheim and Katharina Bruch. He and Jacob above are brothers.
About 1849: Born in Blieskastel.
23 May 1875: Married Mary Magdalena Scheuring (Scheuerming?) in New York City. She was born June 1857 in New York City. Parents were Burhardt Scheuring and Sophia Hassener. The family moved to New Jersey.
Many children.
Died before June 1900.

Franz Josef Beresheim, also called Frank.
16 September 1863: Born in Blieskastel.
22 August 1891: Married Maria Victoria Zahm in Blieskastel. Daughter of Johann Zahm and Anna Elisabetha Schreiner.
1892: Immigrated and settled in College Point, Queens County, New York, which later became a part of New York City.
21 April 1912: Died.
Three children survived.

Gertrude Beresheim
About 1832: Born in Bavaria.
7 February 1854: Married Joseph Oschwald in Newark, New Jersey, USA. He was born about 1830 in Baden, Germany.
They had several children.

John Beresheim
8 Feb 1830: Born in Blieskastel, Bavaria.
August 1852/3:  Immigrated and settled in Council Bluffs, Iowa, USA.
27 September 1860: Married Ernestine Fisher (Fischer?), born 16 Aug 1841 in Saxony, Germany.
5 November 1909: Died in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Two children survived.

Several of these people may be closely related to each other. Note that four of the six people listed are from Blieskastel in Germany. The other two are from Bavaria as that part of the Rheinland-Phalz was called at the time. Bavaria is the place given in the U. S. censuses of 1860, 1870, and 1880.
